Hi there and welcome to Pump it up Baby! I’m Sarah James, wife, mother of 2, breastfeeding fanatic and #1 fan of breast pumps!
I was first introduced to breast pumps when my first child was born. I was trying to nurse my newborn and well…..she just wouldn’t latch! Or maybe I was doing something wrong. So off I went to the Lactation Clinic at my hospital and that’s where I was introduced to these hospital grade beauties. This kindly nurse stuck a couple of breast shields on my engorged glands, flipped on the machine and within minutes, all the milk had been pumped and my child could be fed.
Long story short, I spent the first 2 weeks pretty much living at the lactation clinic, scared to go home without a pump!
And so my search began. I looked at double electric pumps, single electric pumps and manual pumps. Price was an issue, the electric ones don’t come cheap and I didn’t have insurance to cover. But in the end I decided on a double electric pump by Medela and the best price was on Amazon.
In hindsight, it was the best $200 I’ve ever spent. I pumped my way through a variable milk supply, two mastitis infections and going back to work. And 4 years later, used it again when my son was born.
To me, my breast pump was indispensable and if you’re in the market for a breast pump, I salute you no matter what kind of pump you choose!
You are investing into your child’s health and well-being and you can’t put a price on that.
And if with this blog I can help even one mother continue her decision to breast feed, I will feel my job is done!
Thanks for reading. I would love to hear your breast feeding stories.
